Weekly Market Update for 07/03/26
Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.
Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
Can you believe it! The large market went up +.02 today for the first change in the market since May 29! Demand remains poor with little retail activity, so maybe the threat of heat is the likely factor. We have plenty of inventory so stay ahead as needed but the increase will unlikely trigger any panic buying. Michael Foods (Papetti) products took at $.01/lb price increase that went into effect on June 29.
Butter:
The last two weeks has provided quite the roller coaster ride on the CME! After dropping to $1.475 on June 23 (and how many of you bought in on that day???), the butter market hit $1.70 on June 29 before settling today at $1.6375. With the spring flush behind, the arrival of summer temperatures, increased demand from the ice cream sector plus a market correction has brought the average up over $.13 from the prior week. How long will it hold? Maybe it depends on how long we stay in this heat wave! We have attractive pricing on High Desert label butter solids. Dinner Bell butter cups (13705 and 13739) have been replaced by Grassland label (40510 and 40511) at the same price level. We also have Sommer Maid butter cups (40495, 40500) available.
Cheese:
The block market closed slightly higher this week, after finishing at its lowest week-ending level since February 20. These levels are still attractive for buyers and there is export interest as well. Dairy Farmers of America is doing slightly better on production of mozzarella and provolone at their New Wilmington, PA plant. Our inventories are being replenished on Jacobo and Enricco label products. For value, we have the Bella Francesca label, which we feature with a full lineup of mozzarella and provolone! Bongards is still struggling, as we were notified on cuts on one of our loads shipping Monday that was placed on June 1. Check out the attractive pricing on Swiss cheese, especially under the Block Essentials brand!
Fluid Dairy:
Check out the attractive pricing on Sommer Maid heavy cream, half & half and sour cream products! Prices didn’t change much for July.
