Weekly Market Update for 08/21/26

Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
The large shell egg market continues to fall. Supplies on large/XL are abundant and retail demand is soft. On processed, yolks are tighter and going higher.
Freight issues galore! I don’t think I have ever seen a non-holiday, non-weather impacted week where trucks have been as tight as this week! Service level interruptions have been relatively minimal, but dropped loads and higher freight costs have been the commonplace during this DOT brake inspection week!
Butter:
The market remains soft for this time of year, with prices almost $1.00/lb below last year! Two years ago the market was over $3.00! Trading has been light on the CME this week. Is there anything on the horizon that will change the market direction? High Desert is still struggling with production, mainly on unsalted solids (14171). We may run short before our next delivery as lead times are pushed to 4+ weeks. Please consider the Country Maid as an alternative. On butter cups, the best value is on the Sommer Maid butter label (40495, 40500), especially with an impending price increase from Grassland.Grassland.
Cheese:
After an up market last week, the block market has reversed course. Prices remain attractive for both domestic and export sales. The best value on sliced American is Dinner Bell label sliced processed American cheese (standard of identity with the real seal!). We have 160 white (code 40258) and 160 yellow (12212) along with white loaf (13813) and yellow loaf (13807). Inventories on Bongards sliced American are good at this time. On cream cheese, check out the attractive pricing on Sommer Maid 30lb bulk (40601) and 10/3lb (40600)!
Fluid Dairy:
Look for lower prices in September on heavy cream, half & half, sour cream and cottage cheese. This week we have attractive pricing on Sommer Maid half & half (40279)!
