Weekly Foodservice Market Information from Honor Foods

Weekly Market Update for 01/23/26

Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.

Here is a look at the markets:

Eggs:

The shell egg market has reversed course almost overnight!  Sellers went from a long position to short as retailers swooped back in and foodservice demand seems to have awakened! From Thursday to Thursday, the NE large market is up +.25 and poised to increase at $.10/day! We experienced shortages on PO’s received yesterday and today and are fearful that this trend may continue. Prices are more than $6.00/dozen less than they were a year ago so still a great value and an inexpensive protein! Interest in cage free eggs may increase with the change in market conditions. Egg products haven’t started to move yet. Check out the savings with Sommer Maid 15/2lb liquid eggs (code 40300). The price is $8.00/case lower than Papetti label! Hard cooked buckets are attractively priced as are all egg products (whole eggs, yolks and whites).

Butter:

What a difference a week makes! The market has risen +.135 from Thursday to Thursday but is this a temporary bump or new norm? Retail demand is characterized as strong and foodservice demand is improved. Cream loads are available. Butter remains cheap in Europe. The price of Plugra 83% Euro butter remains attractive but check out the added savings on Sommer Gold code 40210 which is $.35/lb less than Plugra! On cups we are continuing to offer Dinner Bell with the hopes of having Sommer Maid back in the mix at a still to be determined date. We are receiving Cabot bulk butter again and trying to build our inventory.

Cheese:

The block cheese market took a dip last week but has returned to the levels of two weeks ago. The numbers should still appear to be attractive to buyers and a great time to promote! Cheese seems plentiful with the exception of sliced American. The industry is at capacity with the major producers not taking on any new business. Our inventories are in much better shape. Last week Land O’Lakes announced a price decrease of $.40/lb on retail cheese under both their own label and New Yorker.  We will send out notification of the decrease as soon as it is received early next week. Look for higher cream cheese prices for February with the increase in the butter market.

Fluid Dairy:

We are lowering prices on Golden Sunshine 36% (12207) and 40% (12502) along with Sommer Maid half & half (40279) for next week! This may be only a one-week adjustment as we are expecting higher prices for February when they are received later today or Monday.
