Weekly Market Update for 06/05/26
Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.
Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
Demand from both the retail sector and foodservice segment continues to be sluggish. Inventories on shell eggs have backed up even with ongoing flock rotations. Spot activity remains limited due to reduced offerings. Demand on cage free shell eggs seems to be almost non-existent. Expect prices to remain depressed.

Butter:
The CME surpassed the $1.70 mark for the first time since April 24 before falling off on Thursday. April data showed that butter stocks year over year were down 8.5% while butter production was down 6.0% month over month. Year to date butter production was up 1.2% and exports (more limited on butter than cheese) were up 85.5%. U.S. butter remains a value compared to EU and NZ butter. The Dinner Bell 2/5lb whipped tubs (13706) have been discontinued by the manufacturer and replaced with Grassland label (40464). Dinner Bell whipped butter cups (13739) are being replaced by Grassland label whipped cups (40510) at the same price level. We have about a week left on the Dinner Bell regular butter cups (13705) as they will also be replaced by a Grassland label (40511) as Grassland completes the transition to their own labels after the AMPI acquisition earlier in the year. We received a limited amount of Sommer Maid whipped butter cups this week (40500) while the solid cups will be available within two weeks!
Cheese:
The CME block market average finished lower for the fourth straight week, ending last week down $.05/lb. Prices have been reduced accordingly on mozzarella, provolone and cheddar. The market seems to have leveled off this week. It is hard to believe that the block market is below $1.50 with nothing on the horizon to suggest that the market will start to climb! Dairy Farmers of America had an event at their New Wilmington, PA plant last week which is impacting production on loaf mozzarella and provolone. This plant is the source for labels like Jacobo, Enricco, Savoldi and many other private labels. Look for lighter inventories as DFA works through these challenges. One alternative would be the Bella Francesca label, which we feature with a full lineup of mozzarella and provolone! We have attractive pricing on Land O’Lakes white and yellow loaf American. We have good inventories on Cooper sharp as well as the Cooper white shreds (1140) that are back in stock. Bongards continues to have product issues on sliced American with lead times now pushed out closer to five weeks. Check out the attractive pricing on Swiss cheese, especially under the Block Essentials brand! The Swiss market went up about $.135 for May and is up another $.09 for June. Cream cheese prices are higher with the rising butter market.
Fluid Dairy:
Check out the attractive pricing on Sommer Maid heavy cream, half & half and sour cream products!
For the most complete lineup of dairy products, count on Sommer Maid for quality, consistency and value!
