Weekly Foodservice Market Information from Honor Foods

Weekly Market Update for 05/29/26

Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.

Here is a look at the markets:

Eggs:

The shell egg market is soft and remains tilted towards the supply side. Foodservice participation remains restrained overall as many buyers continue to operate hand to mouth. We are trying to stay ahead on this down market. Prices on cage free eggs have been further reduced. Egg products are attractively priced as well.

Butter:

Trading on the CME has been active this week, with 30 trades on Thursday alone. The market has rebounded from the $1.50’s back into the 1.60’s where it has been most of the month. U.S. butter remains a value compared to EU and NZ butter. Butter production year over year is up 1.2% while butter stocks are 10.6% less than last year even though they are building. Exports are p 85.5% year over year. The Dinner Bell 2/5lb whipped tubs (13706) have been discontinued by the manufacturer and replaced with Grassland label (40464). Dinner Bell whipped butter cups (13739) will be replaced by Grassland label whipped cups (40510) at the same price level. We have a couple weeks left of Dinner Bell regular butter cups (13705) as they will also be replaced by a Grassland label (40511) as Grassland completes the transition to their own labels after the AMPI acquisition earlier in the year. Our supplier on the Sommer Maid butter cups is running tests on the foil and we should be on track to have inventory by the end of June at the latest!

Cheese:

The CME block market average finished last week down $.0625/lb and prices have been reduced accordingly on mozzarella, provolone and cheddar. We have seen the block market trending lower this week so look for further price decreases the week of June 8. Total U.S. cheese production is up 1.2% year over year, stocks are down 1.7% while cheese exports are up 28.7% year over year. Look for a price increase on the High Desert bulk cream cheese (14350) the week of June 8. We blew right through the Cooper white shreds (1140) that we just brought in so we are out until our next PO arrives on 6/1. We are well positioned on the Land O’Lakes white and yellow deli loaf and haven’t taken the $.35/lb price increase yet that went into effect 4/21.  Bongards continues to have product issues on sliced American with lead times now pushed out closer to five weeks. Check out the attractive pricing on Swiss cheese, especially under the Block Essentials brand! The Swiss market went up about $.135 for May and should go up another $.07 for June.

Fluid Dairy:

Prices are slightly lower on heavy cream for June, while unchanged for sour cream and half & half. Cottage cheese prices are higher.

For the most complete lineup of dairy products, count on Sommer Maid for quality, consistency and value!
