Weekly Market Update for 01/02/26

Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.

Good afternoon and Happy New Year! As we flip the calendar to January, we share both happiness and sadness with David Albert’s last day here at Honor Foods. He will be missed but fondly remembered by all!

Here is a look at the markets:

Eggs:

The shell egg market continues to fall.  Since Thanksgiving, the large market is down over $1.50/dozen and almost $5.00/dozen less than last year at this time!  Incredible! Retail volumes are only fair but will hopefully pick up as stores begin to lower prices post-holiday. We are seeing decreases on egg products as well. On 15/2lb liquid eggs, look at the value on the Sommer Maid brand code 40300! They are priced over $5.00/case lower than Papetti, which are actually up slightly for the first quarter of 2026. Look for a decrease on hard cooked eggs in the near future.

Butter:

The market spent the majority of December in the $1.40 range. Some years we see a notable decrease in January, but one would think that won’t happen this year. We are hopeful that we will have Sommer Maid butter cups back in stock sometime in the coming weeks. We have had the Dinner Bell label as our primary option the last few months, but with Grassland purchasing AMPI we are not sure how far into 2026 we will have that label before Grassland forces us to switch to their label. Cabot doesn’t have any bulk butter available yet.  ETA is most likely the third week in January.

Cheese:

The market remains depressed and that doesn’t appear to be changing much, despite ending the block market ending the week up close to $.04. The low butter market is keeping cream cheese prices low. On American cheese, we are seeing shortages from Bongards on 120 yellow (10658) and 160 yellow (10659) as PO’s have been cut and/or pushed out. Please look for substitutions in the Sommer Maid label when we are in between orders. We are hopeful that we will see improved fill rates in January. Please take note of the attractive pricing we have on feta cheese!

Full Dairy:

Prices are lower on heavy cream and half & half for January. Prices on Cabot sour cream are down as well.
