Weekly Market Update for 05/15/26
Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.
Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
The shell egg market started to shift on Monday! The large market closed Thursday up $.17/dozen since last Friday. Tuesday’s USDA shell egg inventory showed a sharp 7.2% decline in total shell egg stocks to 1.780 million cases, representing the second lowest weekly total recorded this year. Flock rotations continue to have the greatest impact on larger sizes, with extra-large down 10.2% and large down 12.8%. Cage free inventories declined 10.3%. Breaking stock inventory was down 5.2%. On the processed side, look for higher prices on whole eggs. No change on liquid eggs, and Sommer Maid 15/2lb liquid eggs (40300) are $10.00/case less than Papetti label!

Butter:
The CME has seen much heavier trading activity this week. Other than the dip on Wednesday, the market has been steady this week, while the weekly average is on pace to finish higher. We have good inventory levels on Plugra 82% unsalted solids (13313). The Dinner Bell 2/5lb whipped tubs (13706) have been discontinued by the manufacturer and replaced with Grassland label (40464). Dinner Bell whipped butter cups (13739) will be replaced by the end of the week by Grassland label as well. Still no firm ETA of when Sommer Maid butter cups will be available again, although we are hearing rumors it may be by the end of the month! Stay tuned!
Cheese:
Last week’s block market ending average was down slightly less than a penny and appeared to be holding steady until a drop Thursday. Price levels are still attractive to buyers. Check out the fantastic price on High Desert bulk cream cheese (14350). Inventory levels on of Cooper sharp white (code 01299) are good and we are now stocking Cooper shreds (1140). The Land O’Lakes $.35/lb price increase went into effect 4/21 with any new orders placed on the retail side. We are still holding pricing on the Land O’Lakes label, but had to take the increase this week on the New Yorker items in stock. Bongards is having production issues on sliced American. This week we will run short on 120 white (10657) and may run out of other items before our next receiving. Lead times are being pushed out four weeks and longer. Check out the attractive pricing on Swiss cheese, especially under the Block Essentials brand! The Swiss market went up about $.135 for May and should go up another $.07 for April, but we are well positioned with attractive offers!
Fluid Dairy:
Check out the attractive prices on Sommer Maid heavy cream and half & half! We are not expecting significant price changes for June.
For the most complete lineup of dairy products, count on Sommer Maid for quality, consistency and value!
