Weekly Market Update for 11/06/26

Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
Eggs – A lot changed in the past week. Over a million birds lost to bird flu out west (first we have heard of that in a long time, thankfully). Retail demand has picked up as we get closer to Thanksgiving. Flock rotation cycles are making mediums tight. The NE large market is up .16/dozen over last week. Expect this trend to continue the next two weeks. Cage-free prices are up as well.
Butter:
The market reversed course, landing Thursday at its lowest point of the year and on pace for the second lowest week ending average of the year. U.S. butter stocks at the end of September were 9 million pounds heavier than forecast and up 16.5% from last year! The stocks data is now starting to line up better with the weak prices we have seen this year. We are seeing increased demand for bulk butter.
Cheese:
The block cheese market has come off quite a bit this week as well. U.S. cheese stocks were 10 million pounds heavier than expected at the end of September and up 2.4% over last year. With U.S. milk production stronger than expected in August, some of the large inventory likely came from strong cheese production along with weaker than expected domestic demand. It is not surprising to see the market pull back after the last run-up.
