Weekly Foodservice Market Information from Honor Foods

Weekly Market Update for 05/21/26

Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.

Here is a look at the markets:

Eggs:

The shell egg market peaked at the beginning of the week and then has come off .01/dozen on large each of the last two days. Buyers seem to have filled their warehouses and have backed off on orders without much demand. Retail demand is lackluster. We have lowered prices on cage free eggs. On the processed side, look for higher prices on whole eggs in the near future. Prices on liquid eggs are still unchanged, and Sommer Maid 15/2lb liquid eggs (40300) are $10.00/case less than Papetti label!

Butter:

After remaining mostly in the $1.60’s the last two weeks, the market fell back into the $1.50’s on Wednesday. The last time we say the market at this level, it didn’t remain there for very long. Will we see a higher market next week due to the holiday-shortened trading or will the market stay soft? I think that is anyone’s guess right now as buyers look to remain cautious and keep inventories on the lighter side. We have good inventory levels on Plugra 82% unsalted solids (13313). The Dinner Bell 2/5lb whipped tubs (13706) have been discontinued by the manufacturer and replaced with Grassland label (40464). Dinner Bell whipped butter cups (13739) have been depleted and replaced by Grassland label whipped cups (40510) at the same price level will be replaced by the end of the week by Grassland label as well. We have a couple weeks left of Dinner Bell regular butter cups (13705) as they will also be replaced by a Grassland label (40511) as Grassland completes the transition to their own labels after the AMPI acquisition earlier in the year. Our supplier on the Sommer Maid butter cups is running tests on the foil and we hope to have that back in stock by the end of June at the latest!

Cheese:

The CME block market average finished last week down $.03/lb and prices have been reduced accordingly on mozzarella, provolone and cheddar. We have seen the block market trending lower this week so look for further price decreases the week of June 1.  Look for a price increase on the High Desert bulk cream cheese (14350) the week of June 8. We blew right through the Cooper white shreds (1140) that we just brought in so we are out until our next PO arrives on 6/1. We are well positioned on the Land O’Lakes white and yellow deli loaf and haven’t taken the $.35/lb price increase yet that went into effect 4/21. Bongards is having production issues on sliced American and we have run short on 120 white (10657) and Unique 160 yellow imitation (13801) with the next PO due in on Thursday. We do have alternatives in stock under Sommer Maid. The lead time for Bongards is now 4 weeks plus. We are seeing some suppliers that have instituted fuel surcharges so you may notice some slight increases on items. Check out the attractive pricing on Swiss cheese, especially under the Block Essentials brand!  The Swiss market went up about $.135 for May and should go up another $.07 for June.

Fluid Dairy:

Check out the attractive prices on Sommer Maid heavy cream and half & half! We are not expecting significant price changes for June.

For the most complete lineup of dairy products, count on Sommer Maid for quality, consistency and value!
