Weekly Market Update for 10/16/26
Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.
Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
Retail demand is soft. The market is falling, with the northeast large market down $.08 since last Thursday. Mediums are down only $.02, but supplies are tightening. The latest USDA report came out showing that current laying flocks in the US is now at just under 319 million birds, the highest reported level in nearly three years!
Butter:
Signs of life! It’s hard to believe there is excitement over the butter market getting back into the $1.30’s, but that is the case here. After bottoming out at $1.25 last Thursday, we are seeing a slightly improved market. There is currently good demand on the industrial side for bulk and not a lot of excess inventory at this time with most of the larger producers with little to offer. We have decent inventories at this time on most bulk skus, but please plan ahead.
Cheese:
The block market caught fire this week for reasons we are still trying to find out! It is up $.2975 week over week and +.35 over the last two weeks! Expect significant price increases over the next couple weeks even if the market doesn’t advance another penny, based on week-ending averages. The change in American cheese prices for next week will be minimal, but expect increases in the coming weeks as well. Please check out the hot price on Clearfield white loaf (code 1160) and contact your sales associate for pallet deals on Cooper white (1299) and yellow (1353) sharp loaf! On cream cheese, we no longer have the Hahn’s 1oz cups (40606), so please move to Sommer Maid label (40609) along with 36/8oz cream cheese bars (40608). Fluid Dairy:
Prices on heavy cream are lower for October, but higher on sour cream, cottage cheese and half & half.
