Weekly Market Update for 02/13/26
Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.
Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
The shell egg market is weak. Prices have started to fall. Retail demand is fair. No recent bird flu cases. We are seeing lower demand on cage free eggs. We are looking for a on cage free eggs, we have lowered prices back to their level from last week so we can move out inventory. The new prices have met with resistance. We are talking to Sauder’s (as well as others) to see what we can offer going forward. The price on Sommer Maid 15/2lb liquid eggs (code 40300) has been reduced again! The price is $8.00/case lower than Papetti label! Hard cooked buckets are attractively priced as are all egg products (whole eggs, yolks and whites).

Butter:
Another interesting week for the butter market! The volume traded on the CME is 4 times higher than it was a week ago! Who expected this market to be so active the last two weeks! Tightening cream supplies along with strong export demand continue to fuel this market. Prices are still nearly $1/lb less than a year ago. The next marker to look for is March 1 as any butter sold on the CME at that point will need to be produced after December 1, 2025. The price of Plugra 83% Euro butter remains attractive but check out the added savings on Sommer Gold code 40210 which is $.35/lb less than Plugra! On cups we are continuing to offer Dinner Bell with the hopes of having Sommer Maid back in the mix sometime in March is now what we are being told. Inventories on Cabot bulk butter are now in good shape.
Cheese:
The block cheese market started the week higher but has fallen each day this week. Cheese prices in the U.S. continue to be attractive compared to the world market. We have good inventories on sliced American under Bongards and Sommer Maid labels. We are keeping inventories lighter on the Unique labels which are price fixed and not a value now compared to the Bongards and Sommer Maid which follow the market. We have realigned our pricing on Land O’Lakes/New Yorker retail brands after the recent price change announcement. Pricing on feta cheese is lower as well.
Full Dairy:
Prices for March are expected to be higher on heavy cream and half & half, so the next two weeks are a good time to consider bringing in a little extra inventory.
