Dave’s Weekly Market Update — July 14, 2023

Each week Honor Foods Dairy Specialist David Albert provides you with Dave’s Weekly Market Update, with some valuable insights on the most current market price changes on eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.

Eggs:

Once again the egg market remained unchanged. With the extreme heat in many parts of the country we might see some increases in the near future as birds produce less eggs when stressed by heat.

Butter:

Butter rose again this week with 42 loads changing hands so far this week. We are up another .05 at this point. When there is extreme heat, cow comfort goes down. This causes 2 things, less milk and lower component values (less butterfat). The end result is less butterfat in the marketplace. Another factor is the increase in ice cream demand when it gets so hot.  These increases are pushing up cream cheese prices and will do the same for cream.

Cheese:

Both markets rose this week. In my opinion, both had dropped too low for this season. I am guessing that the heat again was a factor and that milk was not being sold so far under the market this week. If nothing changes, Blocks will go up another .04 next week as the average was that less than the close. There were only 10 loads of Blocks traded and 41 loads of Barrels. I feel that that we will see more increases next week.

The entire Honor Foods team would like to thank you for your continued business. We hope you have a safe and relaxing weekend.
