Dave’s Weekly Market Update — December 22, 2022

Each week Honor Foods Dairy Specialist David Albert provides you with Dave’s Weekly Market Update, with some valuable insights on the most current market price changes on eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all!

Eggs:

The egg market’s incredible rise is starting to slow down. The market only rose .01 yesterday which is the smallest increase since it began climbing on October 19th. The market is up $2.43 per dozen since then. It is amazing that a 30 dozen case of eggs now costs $160 and higher. I will not even guess how and when the market will begin to correct itself. The A1 bird influenza is still spreading but holiday demand will now taper off.

Butter:

The Butter market dropped considerably this week again as holiday demand is over. There were not many loads traded this week. We will drop prices more when the new inventory begins to roll in.

Cream:

In all my years doing this I have never seen such a shortage of cream. It does not make it feel any better that everyone is in the same situation. As a buyer it is incredibly frustrating to not be able to procure and supply all of you and your customers in such an important category especially during the holidays.

Cheese:

Both of these markets have been bouncing all around while both dropped this week. The Block seems to be rising again as the close was higher than the average. Barrels should be lower again next week. At this point Blocks are over 31 cents higher than the Barrels. Let’s see how that corrects itself. Many cheese producers are raising premiums for January as costs of doing business keep rising.

Everyone at Honor Foods and Burris Logistics wish you and your families a joyous holiday season.

We thank you for your continued business and support.
