Dave’s Weekly Market Update for 4/26/24

Eggs:
Eggs have been tanking this week and dropped almost .40 per dozen. I would not expect it to stop anytime soon and expect we may see the same extreme drop next week. Eggcelent time to hold inventory on eggs.
Butter:
Butter Jumped on Monday and dropped slightly after that. This is the highest butter has ever been in the Spring. I would like to think it does not bode well for the 4th quarter.
Cheese:
Both Blocks and Barrels jumped double digits this week. There is an inverse spread once again with Barrels above the Blocks. My guess is that within a few weeks the markets will moderate some and end up in the mid $1.60’s. You get to see if I am worth my salt or not with that prediction!
Bird Flu in Dairy Cows:
We have been hearing many stories about this and part of the increase might be due to the scare. The Federal government mandated testing of cattle yesterday before interstate transportation of cattle can take place. I still am unclear as to how much effect this will have on the milk supply. I believe it has been found in about 8 states as of now but that may have spread. So far it has been minor. Time shall tell but it is worth mentioning.
Fluid cream:
As mentioned previously, cream is rising again due to the increases in butter. We will wait and do this next week.
