Weekly Market Update for 02/27/26
Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.
Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
The shell egg market has nearly dropped in half in the last three weeks, with the NE large whites falling from $1.64 on February 9 to $.87 on 2/26. Retail demand is weak and foodservice demand continues to be lackluster. Despite a local egg producer suffering thru an HPAI/bird flu outbreak, there haven’t been any others. Supplies are abundant. The recent northeast blizzard hasn’t had an impact on the market, either. Check out the value on the Sommer Maid 15/2lb liquid eggs (40300).

Butter:
Another jump on a Thursday! The market has climbed .28 since February 1 and $.56 since January 13! Futures are now showing at $2.065 for March and $2.20 for April before reaching a plateau. Prices are still well below where they were a year ago at this time. Dairy Farmers of America recently encountered a major production issue with Plugra butter at their Texas plant. We were shorted a half truckload of unsalted solids (13313) last week. We are receiving a few pallets tonight and then another truckload on Monday. Another alternative on Euro butter is the Sommer Gold 82% code 40210 which is $.35/lb less than Plugra! Still no firm ETA on the return of Sommer Maid butter cups, although the end of March is the expected date. We will continue to carry the Dinner Bell label.
Cheese:
The block cheese market path remains unsettled. This week the market started off strong, before falling over $.07 on Thursday. The week average will finish higher, meaning higher prices are ahead. We have good inventories on sliced American under Bongards and Sommer Maid labels. We are keeping inventories lighter on the Unique labels due to pricing. The Land O’Lakes/New Yorker retail brands are attractively priced, but don’t be surprised to see a price increase announcement in the coming weeks. The market has gone up about $.25 since the price decrease announcement. Pricing on feta cheese is lower. Cream cheese prices continue to inch upwards driven by the butter market. We have attractive pricing on Alouette 1/30lb bulk (40006) and 10/3lb (40007) cream cheese this week!
Fluid Dairy:
Prices for March are up on heavy cream, half & half, sour cream and cottage cheese! For the Unipro members, we are now stocking Brighton Farms heavy cream and creamers! Please contact your sales associate for details!
