Weekly Market Update for 01/16/26
Valuable insights on the latest market price changes for eggs, butter, cheese, and cream products.
Here is a look at the markets:
Eggs:
Eggs – the shell egg market appears to have reached the bottom. Retail demand is starting to pick up while foodservice demand was noticeably more active this week. Large and XL supplies are plentiful but mediums are suddenly short. With prices this low, consumers shouldn’t balk if they have to substitute! Discounts have gone away and buyers are having to pay regular formula prices. Last year at this time market prices were approaching the mid $6.00/dozen range! Cage free movement has slowed and you will find lower prices on the Puglisi cage free large (14482) and XL (14484) whites. Liquid eggs are lower as well.Check out the savings with Sommer Maid 15/2lb liquid eggs (code 40300). The price is over $8.00/case lower than Papetti label! Hard cooked buckets are lower as are all egg products (whole eggs, yolks and whites).

Butter:
Butter – the market flirted with the $1.20’s last Friday and the beginning of the week but saw higher trading the last two days. Is this the beginning of a trend or will our hopes be dashed with lower markets moving forward? There isn’t anything to suggest this market is going to gain any strength any time soon. With the market this low, this is a great time to promote butter! Our prices on Plugra 83% Euro butter are unbeatable and if you really want a deal on Euro butter, check out the added savings on Sommer Gold code 40210 which is $.35/lb less than Plugra! On cups we are continuing to offer Dinner Bell with the hopes of having Sommer Maid back in the mix at a still to be determined date. We did receive a limited amount of Cabot bulk butter this week with more due in over the next two weeks as they rebuild their inventories.
Cheese:
Cheese – this market is downright depressing. Unless export demand becomes robust, we may be looking at low markets for the foreseeable future. Cheese seems plentiful with the exception of sliced American. The industry is at capacity with the major producers not taking on any new business. We have seen some recent shortages on Bongards label but their order fill rates are improving. Land O’Lakes announced late Thursday a price decrease of $.40/lb on retail cheese under both their own label and New Yorker. We will communicate the timing of the price decrease next week once we have a better idea of when the PO will hit our dock. Lower butter prices mean lower cream cheese prices! Look for that trend to continue. And has our sales team mentioned the lower feta cheese prices we are offering?
Fluid Dairy:
Fluid Dairy – prices are lower on heavy cream and half & half for January. Prices on Cabot sour cream are down as well. We have a distinct advantage over other redistributors when it comes to sour cream!
