We in the foodservice business are in a situation that no one could have ever imagined. Operators are struggling to find ways to do business and stay alive in this “new world” we are living in. This has put distributors in an extremely tough situation. We are all struggling with many issues. We are doing our best to move out dated inventories and trying to ramp up product lines to serve the retail customers. Many customers have turned to home deliveries to help to get food to families who are avoiding going into the retail stores as we are sheltered at home. This is also allowing them to move perishable items out of their warehouses. We are seeing huge increases in volume in items we never sold much of in the retail arena.
We at Honor Foods, like all of you, are changing the way we do business to keep everyone safe. It is difficult to keep some items in stock as we can not place orders as easily as before the pandemic. We are doing our best and try to offer like substitution as we navigate through these unprecedented times. The markets have been extremely volatile and with the slowdown of business we are doing our best to lower prices as we are able to replace our inventories with new lower cost stock.
Eggs:
The egg market has been rapidly declining and we are staying close to the market. The demand for retail cartons has skyrocketed and the demand for foodservice eggs has plummeted. We are not stocking large amounts of loose eggs for this reason.
Butter:
Without demand for the food service sector the butter market has declined. As we move through our inventories we are lowering prices as best we can.
Cheese:
The cheese markets have also declined due to the loss of the food service sector. We are doing the same with cheese as we are with butter. We are lowering prices on certain lines as we get new lower priced inventory in house. Many manufacturers have held prices at higher markets as they also try to move through their higher priced inventories.
It is a challenging time for all of us and we need to work together to get through these uncertain times. We do have some great opportunities on certain items. We need to move a truckload of Pauly 10/3 cream cheese dated June 10th. If you have bakeries normally using 30# blocks offer them this at a substantial discount. No reasonable offers on quantity will be refused!
We also can offer pallets of ESL 400 ct creamers dated 5/4 for around $4.00 per case. There are also pallets of Dairystar Aseptic 360 ct shelf stable creamers dated May 23rd for $5.00 case.
We also have crumbled goat packed 2/2# dated 5/21 and 12/11 oz goat logs dated 6/6. Make me an offer!
